In-Person Seminar in Jerusalem
The women of Project Kesher Israel gathered at the Jerusalem Forest on the weekend of November 12th for a three-day leadership retreat. Attendees discussed Jewish pluralism, feminism, sex education, and social media, and participated in a musical Havdalah and a lesson on female Torah scribes. PK Israel is rising to the challenge as Jewish families leave Belarus to make aliyah, immigrate, to Israel. Recently, a family of Jewish musicians, a PK-trained mother and daughter amongst them, left Belarus in response to the political and economic situation. Now living in Holon, Israel, and missing the Minsk Reform community where they were song leaders, they have been welcomed by the PK community in Israel. As the mother and daughter participated in the leadership retreat, the father and the son joined them with a piano, guitar, and flute, to lead a musical shabbat service with Rabbi Olya Weinstein, Executive Director of PK Israel. It was a very powerful moment for all 50+ Russian-speakers who were present that night in Jerusalem. This is the impact and support of a global Jewish network.
