Support and Resilience: PKI LGBTQ Group Meeting in Haifa

The need for emotional support among new LGBTQ immigrants and refugees in Israel is critical, especially for those grappling with the aftermath of trauma from fleeing the war in Ukraine or escaping oppressive regimes. 20 members of Project Kesher Israel’s LGBTQ support group in Haifa met last week for a session led by psychotherapist and researcher Asia Istoshina.

This gathering provided a safe and welcoming environment for participants to share personal experiences and discuss the challenges of immigration. The warm and non-judgmental atmosphere fostered open dialogue, enabling attendees to express their fears originating from more homophobic societies. Asia’s professional and approachable demeanor played a vital role in creating trust and mutual support within the group.

Many participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to connect during this crucial time. One participant reflected, “It felt truly comfortable and calm, which is so important for me right now. Asia’s approach made all the difference, and I look forward to future meetings with her.” This meeting not only strengthened connections but also served as a valuable resource for strategy-sharing and building community resilience.
