Project Kesher Explores Victoria Amelina’s Final Work on War and Justice

Last week, Project Kesher hosted a compelling webinar discussing "Looking at Women Looking at War: A War and Justice Diary," the partially unfinished book by Ukrainian author and war crimes investigator Victoria Amelina. Amelina, who began documenting war crimes after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, tragically died from injuries sustained in a missile attack in Dnipro. Her work, published posthumously with the support of her editorial team, offers a powerful reflection on war, justice and Ukrainian identity.

Led by Professor Amelia Glaser of the University of California, San Diego, the discussion explored Amelina’s literary legacy and her dual role as both an investigator and a writer. Participants engaged with excerpts from her book and other Ukrainian literature, delving into themes of authorship, militarism, national identity and the importance of reporting during wartime. The event highlighted the enduring significance of Ukrainian voices in shaping historical narratives and pursuing justice.
