Project Kesher Champions Women Entrepreneurs in Ukraine
Project Kesher is honored to be featured in eJewishPhilanthropy this International Women’s Day, where CEO Karyn Gershon highlights the urgent need to support women entrepreneurs in Ukraine and beyond. As Ukraine endures ongoing conflict, women have emerged as leaders in business, with one in every two new businesses in the country now founded by a woman. Despite severe economic and social challenges, investing in these entrepreneurs presents a powerful opportunity to stabilize families, enhance local economies and create lasting impact.
In the article, Gershon outlines best practices for women-centered philanthropy, using Project Kesher Ukraine’s Women’s Opportunity Fund (WOF-UA) as a model. With grants as small as $1,500, women have rebuilt businesses, created jobs and even launched their own philanthropic initiatives. From a glassmaker reconstructing after shelling to an animal sanctuary offering therapy to displaced persons, these stories showcase the resilience and ingenuity of women-led businesses.
