Rebuilding Hope in Kryvyi Rih

Members of the Project Kesher Ukraine (PKU) network continue to live each day amidst the threat of war. Recently a missile attack on Kryvyi Rih struck the homes of two PKU members, including Hanna Litvinchuk, who narrowly escaped with her and her daughter’s life.

Hanna shared: “My daughter actually saved us—she saw an urgent missile alert for our city. Those few seconds were decisive, when we took cover in a corner. The deafening blast, the shaking ground, the sound of shattered windows and broken shingles—it all felt inevitable, but it happened in just seconds. After a moment of confusion, we rushed to the basement and stayed there until the all-clear signal. We didn't even know for an hour that the missile had struck just 50 meters from our house. The blast destroyed roofs, shattered windows and twisted the doors. The amount of damage was overwhelming, but with the help, we have managed to clean everything up during two days and secure the place as best as we could—especially since it was winter outside".

PKU’s Women’s Opportunity Fund provided funds to help these women make essential repairs. This support did more than just rebuild walls, but restored the recipients’ sense of safety, dignity and hope, demonstrating that even in the darkest moments, solidarity can light the way forward.
